Larry Chavis.jpgLarry Chavis is a 1972 graduate of Pembr Larry Chavis is a 1972 graduate of Pembroke State University with a B.S. in Accounting. He received his MBA from Campbell University.He is also a graduate of the Mid-Management Banking at UNC-Chapel Hill and the Bank Controllership Graduate Program through the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Chavis’ parents are Agnes Chavis and the late George Chavis. He is married to Loleta Hunt and they have two children, Melissa and Alex. He was reared by his grandparents, Gus and Flowers Hunt. He served two years in the U.S. Army as a POW Interrogator in Vietnam from 1968-1969.

He was employed with Southern National Bank from 1972 until 1987, having ascended to the position of Vice President in the Accounting Department. Mr. Chavis began his career with Lumbee Guaranty Bank in July 1987 as President and CEO. Since that time, Lumbee Guaranty Bank has expanded from one location to now having twelve locations. Under his leadership, Lumbee Guaranty Bank presently has 100 employees. As of Dec. 31, 2008 total assets were $236,692,621 and deposits were $180,532,335.

Mr. Chavis is an active member of many organizations related to banking and finance. He currently serves on a board of the North Carolina Banking Commission and is Chairperson of his North Carolina Bankers Peer Group. Mr. Chavis has served as a Director of the North Carolina Bankers Association and the Community Bankers Association.

Mr. Chavis is also very active in many organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, Kiwanis, UNCP- Foundation & Endowment Board, Thomas Family Center for Entrepreneurship Advisory Board, UNCP Business Department Advisory Board, Southeastern Utilities Development Board, Southeastern Regional Medical Center Foundation Board, Duke Heart Center, North Carolina Indian Economic Development Initiative, North Carolina Economic  Development Initiative, the VFW, South Robeson High School Booster Club, Treasurer and Deacon of Reedy Branch Baptist Church. He has served in various leadership roles, including president, of many of these organizations. Mr. Chavis was awarded “BUSINESS MAN OF THE YEAR” in 1992 by the Lumbee Regional Development Association. He also received the 1999 Silver Beaver Award from Boy Scouts, Governors Award, Distinguished Service to Agriculture, Kiwanian of the year, UNC Pembroke Distinguished Alumni, Economic Advancement of Indian People Award (United Tribes of NC) and many more accolades.

Mr. Chavis loves all types of sports and enjoys traveling.
